Cultural Globalisation
Refers to the transmission of ideas, meanings and values across national borders. This process is marked by the spread of commodities and ideologies, which become standardized around the world. Mass consumption serves as a facilitator between different people and cultures around the globe as a result of the exponential growth of the human population. Through technological advancement, culture has been moving beyond borders and boundaries, transforming through locations the shared meanings of culture. Through the process of sharing the ideas and values of one culture to another ultimately leads to an interconnectedness between various populations from diverse cultures .

As citizens living in North America, it is quite evident that globalisation has impacted us in many ways. We cheer for European soccer teams, we eat food from countries from all over the world, we see the devastation of oil spills and we can communicate with people in ways unimaginable only a few decades ago.

Globalisation has affected almost every aspect of life in almost every nation. From economic to social to culture, this widespread exchange of goods, services and ideas have influenced changes around the world. Even though the cultural influence in globalization is of slight significance to policy makers, its power has tremendous consequences to the nations involved and its people. Food is an important element in defining culture. Britannica (2007). “Food is the oldest global carrier of culture.” (para. 1). Any changes in the foods that we eat, in its preparation, the way it is served and consumed diminishes the traditional beliefs of the people.
McDonalds is a prominent global force, was one of the first companies in the fast food industry to globalize, which has had positive and negative impacts on the company. It can be found on more than 100 countries, with over 30.00 restaurants worldwide. It continues to be expand it is territory by opening 1,850 new restaurants every year. McDonald’s is able to serve 52 million customers per day. This company respect the cultural expectations of the local residents.
